Continuing the tradition and carrying out one of its main tasks – educating the society on the issues of state defence and national security, the Lithuanian Riflemen Union organizes the fifth international conference “Total defence – is it still relevant?”. During the conference, the well-known public figures, representatives of the military will speak about the country's security and defense issues, members of the academic community and foreign experts will share their insights as well.
The conference is dedicated to the all Lithuanian society. Dalia Grybauskaitė, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, became the patron of conference, as she was in 2014, 2015 and 2017.
On the 17th of November 2017, Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union organized an international conference "Society - the Guarantee of National Security?" which took place in Vilnius. The famous public figures and representatives of the military spoke about the country's security and defense, members of the academic community and various representatives of the institutions from Israel, Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine shared their own insights about the role of the society and various organizations in enhancing civil resistance. The main report was read by Major General Eyal Eisenberg, former general in the Israel Defense Forces. He was responsible for defense, security, emergency readiness and intervention on a national level, as well as led for the special forces, the various brigades and soldiers.
A well-known expert on security and foreign policy issues, critic of Vladimir Putin, an Estonian diplomat, former intelligence chief, entrepreneur and politician Eerik – Niiles Kross shared his insights about the security and its assurance capabilities of Europe and the Baltic States.
Professor at the Institute of International Relations and Political Sciences of Vilnius University Ainė Ramonaitė, for the first time presented a research "Civic Resistance Opportunities and Assumptions in Lithuania", held by the Baltic advanced technology institute. She told about where the civilian power of Lithuania are and how to increase it, also who and why would defend the homeland, how much our defensive powers diminished Russian propaganda and what values and skills needed for civil resistance.View agenda
On the 20th of November 2015, LRU organized the second international conference "Security Situation in the Baltic region: Threats and Responses". The keynote speaker for the conference was one of the most famous US war analysts and President of the Jamestown Foundation, Glen Howard. Lithuanian and foreign diplomats, politicians, military officers and the members of non-governmental organizations discussed the threats and the preparations to overcome those threats.View agenda
The first international conference "Civil Defense in the Hybrid War", organized by the LRU, took place in Vilnius on 21st of November, 2014. The key note speaker at the conference was “The Economist” editor, author of books about Russia, Edward Lucas.
