About the conference

Continuing the tradition and carrying out one of LRU’s main tasks - educating the public on the issues of state defense and national security, the LRU organizes an international conference "Society - the Guarantee of National Security?”. During the conference, the well-known public figures, representatives of the military will speak about the country's security and defense issues; members of the academic community and politicians will share their insights.

The conference is dedicated to the Lithuanian public and aims to demonstrate the magnitude and importance of the impact made by citizens, who contribute to strengthening their country's security. Dalia Grybauskaitė, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, became the patron of the conference as she was in 2014 and 2015.

2014 LRU conference „Civil defense in a hybrid war“

The first international conference "Civil Defense in the Hybrid War", organized by the LRU, took place in Vilnius on 21st of November, 2014. The key note speaker at the conference was “The Economist” editor, author of books about Russia, Edward Lucas.

2015 LRU conference "Security situation in the Baltic region: threats and responses"

On the 20th of November 2015, LRU organized the second international conference "Security Situation in the Baltic region: Threats and Responses". The keynote speaker for the conference was one of the most famous US war analysts and President of the Jamestown Foundation, Glen Howard. Lithuanian and foreign diplomats, politicians, military officers and the members of non-governmental organizations discussed the threats and the preparations to overcome those threats.
